New York hospital receives $8M grant to build HIV center

New York City-based Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center will receive almost $8 million in federal grants to build a HIV center, according to News 12 Brooklyn.

Here are three things to know:

1. The Star Health Center-Brookdale will serve more than 2,500 HIV patients and expand the hospital's current services to include substance abuse and mental health counseling.

2. Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center is partnering with New York City-based SUNY Downstate Medical Center to open the center.

3. Hospital officials said they hope to open Star Health Center-Brookdale next year, although the center's location and design are not yet known.
