McLaren Macomb, a 228-bed acute care hospital in Mount Clemens, Mich., broke ground May 8 on a $68 million emergency department and trauma center.
The ED expansion, which is the first phase of a larger project, will more than double the current facility's capacity. The 43,735-square-foot center will feature several trauma bays, multiple ambulance entrances and separate waiting rooms for high- and low-acuity patients.
"There is a need in our community for a state-of-the-art emergency and trauma center, and with the support and assistance of many people, we will soon be able to provide one," said Tom Brisse, president and CEO of McLaren Macomb. "Trends show that the need for emergency care in Macomb County will continue to grow for many years to come, and we are proud to be in the position to meet that growing need."
The larger construction project calls for the construction of a six-story patient tower, which will be home to the ED, a surgical suite, 32 intensive care unit beds and 32 private patient beds.
Phase one of the construction project is slated for completion in 2020.
