The Garden City, Kansas-based St. Catherine Hospital Women's Clinic may be out of commission for approximately a year after a spring snowstorm caused severe structural and water damage to the facility, according to The Garden City Telegram.
Officials said the roof of the clinic collapsed under the heavy snowfall and the interior of the building suffered water damage, leaving the facility unsafe to enter. Officials specified the facility will be inoperative for approximately nine to 12 months, according to the report.
Scott Taylor, president and CEO of St. Catherine Hospital, said the financial repercussions of the damage are still unknown, as city personnel have requested people refrain from entering the building. Mr. Taylor told the Telegram he expects equipment within the facility "to be a total loss" as a result of the damage, but he expects the hospital will receive fair compensation from insurers to cover the cost.
The clinic will be temporarily relocate to an area near the north entrance of Garden City-based St. Catherine Hospital for approximately 60 to 90 days. Mr. Taylor said despite damages, the services provided by the clinic will "not be interrupted in any way," according to the Telegram report.
