A subsidiary of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America has set its sights on a 35.8-acre former landfill to serve as the location for the hospital operator's expansion of Nashville-based TriStar Skyline Medical Center, according to The Tennessean.
HCA must obtain approval from the Metro Council, the legislative authority of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville, to purchase the vacant Old Due West Landfill site in Madison, Tenn. About 15 acres of the land is considered usable for the hospital construction, according to the report.
"Obviously, it's unused land and Metro has no internal plans for the property," Steve Berry, the city's director of public property, told The Tennessean. "And we look forward to working with HCA on consummating this transaction."
HCA is considering using the former landfill site as a parking lot, among other uses, according to Mr. Berry.
