Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health Systemhas disclosed plans to build a $25 million regional hospital in Dunlap, Tenn., according to a Times Free Press report.
Here are five things to know about the project.
1. Hospital officials are seeking permission from the state to build the hospital.
2. If built, the proposed facility would include 25 beds and 75 to 80 staff members, according to Joe Winick, Erlanger's senior vice president for planning and business development.
3. In the report, Mr. Winick said the regional hospital is needed to meet demand in Sequatchie County. "The volume [at Erlanger's existing emergency care clinic in Dunlap] has been more than double what we projected," he said. "The volume has gotten to the point where we felt our best plan is to go forward with a new regional hospital in Sequatchie County."
4. Under the plans for the proposed project, Sequatchie County would sell bonds to pay for the facility and then lease it to Erlanger, according to Sequatchie County Executive Keith Cartwright.
5. Outside of Sequatchie County, Erlanger also is seeking state and federal permission to rebuild and expand its 45-year-old Bledsoe County facility, according to the report. The new facility would offer outpatient and emergency care and include some medical offices, the report states.
