Six months before patients are expected to move in, Dayton (Ohio) Children's Hospital has increased the scope of the expansion of its 260,000-square-foot patient tower, according to the Dayton Business Journal.
Rising patient volume has prompted the hospital to build out the seventh floor of the tower, which was originally going to be kept shelled for future use. This will increase the cost of the expansion from $153 million to $168 million, according to the report.
Construction of the eight-story tower has been ongoing for more than three years.
Several milestones will take place in 2017. The hospital's new cafeteria will open in February. In July, the hematology, oncology, neonatal intensive care unit and critical care unit will open, and patients will move into the seventh and eight floors in September, according to the report.
