Minneapolis-based Hennepin County Medical Center will change its name after 42 years, much to the chagrin of some county officials, according to Star Tribune.
Officials want to change the name of the medical center to Hennepin Healthcare Medical Center, according to the article. Officials said the rebranding is part of an effort to "describe the system better."
The county board's health and human services committee will vote on the issue Nov. 15. If approved, the change would take effect in 2018.
However, some officials are displeased with the fact that "county" was taken out of the medical center's name, according to the article.
One county commissioner told Star Tribune the medical center "ought to be identified as a county enterprise," and with the new name, "government will not be as fully credited," according to the article.
Officials from the medical center surveyed 500 individuals in the area last spring. Survey results indicated the name change "played well" with residents, according to the article.
