Children's Hospital of OC builds first pediatric mental health inpatient facility in the county

Los Angeles-based Children's Hospital of Orange County is building the first pediatric inpatient mental health center in the county, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The new center, currently under construction on the third floor of CHOC's research building, is expected to house 18 private rooms, an outdoor playground and multipurpose areas for consultation, therapy, recreation and treatment.

The annual cost of the program is projected to reach $16 million. Money for the construction and operation of the program will come from a state grant and local philanthropists. So far, about $15 million has been raised, according to the report.

Construction on the facility began in September and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017 or early 2018.
