Children's Healthcare of Atlanta advances plan for new 446-bed hospital

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta has taken an important step toward opening a new 446-bed hospital by filing a certificate of need with state officials, according to 11alive.com.

The hospital plans to move to a new 70-acre location that will feature 20 acres of green space. According to the certificate of need, 81 percent of the $1.5 billion construction costs will go to the hospital; 9 percent to a clinic and medical office building; 7 percent to a central utility plant; and 3 percent to site improvements.

"We want this to be something that continues to differentiate Atlanta, and when people are thinking about where they want to live, this will be an attribute to attract young families," said Donna Hyland, CEO of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, according to 11alive.com

The hospital will open in 2025 if approved.
