Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives belated commencing its $100 million expansion of Colorado Springs-based St. Francis Medical Center until May or June 2017, reports The Gazette.
Announced in September 2015, the expansion will not reach completion until 2019, Penrose-St. Francis Health Services spokesperson Chris Valentine told The Gazette. Projects included expanding the 195-bed hospital's emergency department, adding nine operating rooms and doubling the size of the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.
Mr. Valentine said in an emailed statement to The Gazette CHI "has committed to the SFMC project but the timing was delayed as they worked to complete previously committed projects across the country."
CHI — a nonprofit 103-hospital system — posted an operating loss of $483.3 million in fiscal year 2016, compared to an operating surplus of $23.9 million in the year prior. The system plans to allocate between $770 million and $1.2 billion toward projects in the fiscal year ending June 30.
