CHI Franciscan Health and MultiCare Health System, both located in Tacoma, Wash., broke ground on the $45 million Tacoma (Wash.) Behavioral Health Hospital Sept. 29.
The 120-bed hospital will focus on treating patients with behavioral health and chemical dependency conditions, providing services such as stabilization and recovery efforts and individual and family counseling.
The facility will be built and operated by the Alliance for South Sound Health, a joint venture formed by the two health systems in 2014.
MultiCare and CHI Franciscan filed a certificate of need application with the state to build the facility in December 2014. State officials approved the application in January 2016.
The hospital project is expected to create 300 hospital jobs and 40-plus construction jobs, officials said. Construction on the facility will be completed in 2018.
