The Central Ohio Hospital Council is considering a plan to open an emergency facility that would offer walk-in services, as well as a drop-off point for police officers and EMTs, in the Columbus, Ohio area, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The group includes OhioHealth Riverside Hospital, OhioHealth Doctors Hospital and OhioHealth Grant Medical Center as well as Southeast Healthcare Services, a comprehensive provider for mental health services. All organizations are based in Columbus.
The group will decide by August if a physical center is feasible, or if a virtual hub for patient connection is a better option. The group's goal is to bridge the gap between patients and the help they need by giving hospital workers access to certalized medical records.
They also aim to connect patients to servies at nearby facilities that their hospitals may not offer. Locations in Columbus are currently under consideration for the potential facility.
Multiple pilot programs have already been initiated in the area with the hopes of using these shared recoreds to help diagnose patients quickly and cut down on unnecessary inpatient care.
