The Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued preliminary approval of Boston Children's Hospital's proposed $1 billion expansion project with caveats designed to mitigate cost growth concerns, reports Boston Business Journal.
Chair of the Commonwealth's Health Policy Commission Stuart Altman said conditions imposed on the project by DPH are sufficient to ease the commission's financial and market concerns, according to the article.
Conditions include Boston Children's Hospital cannot pass project expanses on to its patients through increased rates, and the hospital must demonstrate new patients are coming from out of state.
DPH is slated to issue final approval of the project Oct. 20.
