BJC's Barnes-Jewish St. Peter’s to add $12.2M rehab hospital

St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare is teaming up with HealthSouth Corp., a Birmingham, Ala.-based rehabilitation services provider, to build a 35-bed rehab hospital on the third floor of BJC's Barnes-Jewish St. Peters (Mo.) Hospital.

The two organizations have filed a certificate of need with the state of Missouri. If approved, they expect the $12.2 million project to take about nine months to complete, with the opening expected next summer. The new rehabilitation facility would be a satellite location of the organizations' existing inpatient rehab hospital, The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis.

The construction project and new facility will bring about 86 new jobs to the area, according to BJC.
