The state of Illinois gave Elgin, Ill.-based Advocate Sherman Hospital the green light to break ground on a $12.7 million same-day ambulatory surgery center, the Daily Herald reported.
While some local healthcare providers believed the project was redundant, proponents said it would provide patients more access to lower cost care. The state health board sided with proponents and voted 6-0 with two members absent to approve the project, according to the report.
Advocate officials expect construction to begin on the 15,000-foot facility in August and to be completed June 2018, according to the report. The facility will provide services for general surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology and urology.
