The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.
1. NorthShore to open 50 new immediate care centers
Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University Health System plans to spend $50 million to $60 million to open 50 immediate care centers.
2. Idaho Falls to get 88-bed community hospital after public outcry
A community's outcry for more choices in emergency and inpatient care is bringing a new 88-bed hospital and emergency room to Idaho Falls next year.
3. Bon Secours edges out Sentara Health to expand in Virginia city
Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System edged out Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare in a race to expand hospital services in northern Suffolk (Va.). State officials approved Bon Secours Health System's proposal to build a two-story, 76,000-square-foot addition that will house 18 beds and four operating rooms at its Harbour View campus.
4. Hackensack University Medical Center to break ground on $714M expansion next year
Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center is on track to begin its $714 million expansion in the first quarter of 2019.
5. City approves part of UPMC's $2B expansion plan
The Pittsburgh Planning Commission approved on Oct. 23 UPMC's plan to build a vision and rehabilitation hospital in Pittsburgh as part of the system's $2 billion expansion.
6. Torrance Memorial opens $40M pediatric unit
Torrance (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center opened its $40 million Pat and Ellen Theodora Pediatric and Young Adult Pavilion Oct. 23.
7. New York hospital receives $8M grant to build HIV center
New York City-based Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center will receive almost $8 million in federal grants to build a HIV center, according to News 12 Brooklyn.
