1. Providence Medical Center completes emergency department expansion
Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb., finished renovating its emergency department after almost a year of construction, reports Norfolk Daily News.
2. Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children opens Alabama's first obstetrics ED
Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital for Women & Children opened the first obstetrics emergency department in Alabama on Aug. 29, equipped to handle emergencies at any stage of pregnancy, according to a report by AL.com.
3. University of Chicago Medicine breaks ground on new ER
The University of Chicago Medicine held a ceremonial groundbreaking Sept. 15 to mark the start of a $43 million project to construct a new emergency department, bringing trauma services to the city's south side for the first time in 25 years, according to the Chicago Tribune.
4. Cook County Health and Hospitals gets state approval for $137M outpatient tower
The state of Illinois granted Chicago-based Cook County Health and Hospitals System approval to build a $137 million, nine-story outpatient facility, according to the Chicago Tribune.
5. St. Jude Children's completes renovation of 3 patient floors
Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children's Research Hospital completed the renovation of three patient care floors, with features including unique wood sculptures — great for climbing — and "journey walls," or interactive glass walls with LEDs, sound systems and facts about nature, space and other topics.
6. Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital to build research and education building
Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., unveiled plans to build a new 230,000-square-foot research and education building on a recently acquired 1.4-acre plot.
7. UnitedHealth Group's Optum plans 19 urgent care facilities in Minn.
In its largest push into Minnesota's patient care space so far, UnitedHealth Group's Optum Division will open 19 urgent care centers in the state by the end of 2017, operating under the brand name MedExpress, according to the Star Tribune.
8. Overland Park approves plans for city's first microhospital despite unknown operator
The Overland Park (Kan.) City Council on Monday approved a special-use permit to build the city's first microhospital in a 9-2 vote, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.
9. Maine Medical Center proposes $512M expansion
Portland-based Maine Medical Center officials proposed a $512 million expansion project of the facility. If approved, the expansion would become one of the largest projects ever to be pursued by the hospital, according to The Washington Times.
10. Yale Medical, Greenwich Hospital open $15M walk-in clinic
Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Health and Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital partnered to build a new, outpatient medical clinic in Stamford, Conn.
11. Cleveland Clinic files plans for London hospital
Cleveland Clinic submitted plans to Westminster City Council in London to convert a six-story office block into a 205-bed hospital overlooking Buckingham Palace, according to the Evening Standard.
12. Inspira Health Network to construct $200M hospital in N.J.
Inspira Health Network will spend $200 million to build a 204-bed hospital in Mullica Hill, N.J.
13. The Hospitals of Providence, Emerus partner for Texas microhospital
El Paso, Texas-based The Hospitals of Providence teamed up with The Woodlands, Texas-based Emerus to build a microhospital in Horizon City.
14. Frederick Regional Health System nears $21M goal for cancer facility
Frederick (Md.) Regional Health System is closing in on a $21 million fundraising goal for its James M. Stockman Cancer Institute, to be located at the system's Rose Hill location, The Frederick News-Post reports.
15. Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital unveils 6-story patient tower
Memorial Hermann SugarLand (Texas) Hospital opened its new 155,000-square-foot, six-story tower after 27 months of construction, according to the Sugar Land Sun.
16. HCA eyes former landfill site for TriStar Skyline Medical Center expansion
A subsidiary of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America has set its sights on a 35.8-acre former landfill to serve as the location for the hospital operator's expansion of Nashville-based TriStar Skyline Medical Center, according to The Tennessean.
17. UCSF, John Muir joint venture signs long-term lease on $90M project
BayHealth, the joint venture between San Francisco-based UCSF Medical Center and Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health, signed a 15-year lease on space in Berkeley, Calif., where it plans to open Berkeley Outpatient Care, the joint venture's first outpatient and urgent care clinic, according to the San Francisco Business Times.
18. Inova Loudoun Hospital starts ED expansion
Inova Loudoun Hospital began renovation efforts to update the emergency department at its Lansdowne campus in Leesburg, Va., according to Healthcare Design.
