Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, Vt., will deploy the first wave of its new Epic EHR system Nov. 1, The Middlebury Campus reports.
The EHR transition is part of PMC's five-year plan for new services, renovations and infrastructure. The medical center will roll out the first wave of the project next month.
Through Oct. 1, 2020, the EHR will be live in an interim state, so the PMC will have an outpatient record and an inpatient record that will not be able to share data with one another. To address potential stress that may arise with the situation, the medical center plans to bring on more staff, according to the report.
The new Epic system will allow PMC community members, students and staff to access a single platform for patients' medical records. It will also allow PMC to share patient records with Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network, which PMC is a member of.
"Instead of having a different medical record at the hospital and at your [physician's] office and at the nursing home and then up [at University of Vermont Health Network], you're going to have one medical record," PMC Vice President Ron Hallman told the publication.
