Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center is preparing for a Thursday Epic go-live.
The medical center is moving to a new computer system, called eStar, and implementing Epic technology across various operations. VUMC said the new computer system will support hospital and clinic operations such as EHRs, test ordering, billing and workflows for delivering inpatient and outpatient care.
With the revenue cycle, patients will receive a single comprehensive bill rather than separate bills from VUMC's physician practice group and for hospital and clinic charges. eStar will also allow patients to schedule clinic appointments, complete clinic intake forms and submit medical record updates online.
The move to a new computer system comes amid the medical center's IT replacement project called Epic Leap, which VUMC said affects approximately 18,000 medical center employees as well as VUMC's patients who use the My Health at Vanderbilt web portal.
"Once eStar is up and running, we'll have more efficient ways to monitor outcomes, to use critical alerts and to track down and communicate with appropriate clinicians to manage problems. I'm very excited about the opportunities this gives us," said Paul Sternberg Jr., MD, chief patient experience and service officer.
