Tomah (Wis.) Memorial Hospital is gearing up for its Oct. 1 Epic EHR go-live, a project that will cost the hospital around $3 million, reports The Tomah Journal.
The system will help the hospital easily exchange patient data with nearby La Crosse, Wis.-based Gundersen Health System and Mayo Franciscan Health System, which is also in La Crosse. Both hospitals use Epic and have clinics in Tomah.
"With both clinics having Epic, it seemed like the right thing to do. We can leverage the sharing of information from the clinic to the hospital, from the hospital to the clinic and those providers using the Epic software," LaVonne Smith, information systems director at TMH, told The Tomah Journal. "This represents a major investment and change for our organization."
More than 300 hospital staff began training in June to prepare for the transition, which hospital officials predict should be smooth.
"The amount of time, efforts and dedication that our staff has invested in the training process over the last few months should ensure a seamless transition for our patients Oct. 1," said Heather Laudon, clinical systems analyst at TMH.
