Sutter Health adds AI-powered voice assistant to EHR: 3 notes

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health is integrating Suki, an artificial intelligence, voice-enabled digital assistant for physicians, to its EHR system.

Three notes:

1. As part of a pilot program, Sutter Health will add Suki to three clinical practice areas: primary care, dermatology and orthopedics.

2. Suki technology uses a combination of physician voice commands to document clinical notes, which are then integrated with the EHR system.

3. Results from one-year pilot programs across various specialties show that Suki, which launched in May 2018, has helped health systems achieve a 70 percent reduction in the amount of time physicians spend on medical notes.

"Maximizing the amount of time clinicians spend with patients while reducing the documentation burden on our clinicians is a strategic and tactical priority," Sutter Health Vice President of Clinical Informatics and EHR Howard Landa, MD, said in a news release. "Personalized care paired with digital assistant tools will enhance care delivery and have a positive impact on health outcomes for our consumers, which is what really matters."
