St. Luke's University health system adds remote patient monitoring data to Epic EHR

Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Health Network will expand its use of Masimo remote patient monitoring technologies that transfer data directly to the health system's Epic EHR.

Four notes:

1. St. Luke's University Health Network will implement Masimo's Patient SafetyNet remote monitoring and clinician notification system in all eight of its existing hospitals.

2. The monitoring devices are worn by patients to track their oxygen saturation and pulse rates, and the data is automatically transferred from the devices to St. Luke's Epic EHR.

3. Through Patient SafetyNet, patient data can be continuously remotely monitored from central view stations and smartphones, with the ability to alert clinicians from afar to possible changes of the patient's condition.

4. The health system first installed the technology in a portion of one of its hospitals as part of a pilot program in 2015. One year after implementing the monitoring system, clinicians achieved a 62 percent reduction in mortality.
