A collaboration involving Orlando (Fla.) Health is training more college students to use Epic.
Students in Orlando-based University of Central Florida's health management and informatics programs are getting the opportunity to learn the EHR after Orlando Health's IT department built training modules for the school.
"Epic is an electronic health record system that's used nationally by most of the big players in healthcare," said Amanda Walden, PhD, a senior lecturer of global health management and informatics at University of Central Florida, in a December statement. "The problem with the software is that you have to be sponsored by a facility to get training in it, and unfortunately, they do not offer educational versions of the software for our students to learn on. Having Epic training is a really big employment opportunity for our students."
More than 90% of medical students and residents train on Epic, a factor cited by health systems switching to the EHR vendor.
