ONC shifts standardization timeline: 3 things to know

HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT is shifting its Standards Version Advancement Process to offer more time for federal and healthcare industry collaboration.

Three things to know:

  1. As part of the ONC Cures Act Final Rule, the ONC launched the Standards Version Advancement Process so companies can update their system's data standards, according to an Oct. 15 news release.

  2. Federal and industry partners will be able to comment on proposed standards from January to May 2022. In June 2022, the standards will be announced. By August 2022, the new standard will become effective.

  3. The original comment period was set to end Sept. 30, 2021, and the new standards were expected to be released in January 2022.
