While more physicians used patient health information from outside organizations in years 2015 and 2017, interoperability among office-based physicians did not improve during the same time frame, according to an ONC analysis.
The report analyzes data from nationally representative surveys conducted in 2015 and 2017 to assess the number of healthcare providers who electronically engaged in the four aspects of interoperability: sending, receiving, finding and integrating patient health data received from outside sources.
Three survey insights:
1. Electronically finding or requesting data from outside sources increased by 50 percent among physicians between 2015 and 2017.
2. The rate of physicians engaging in electronically sending, receiving and integrating data received from outside organizations did not change in 2015 or 2017.
3. An estimated one in 10 physicians engaged in all four domains of interoperability in both 2015 and 2017.
