North Carolina health system to go live on Epic

Laurinburg, N.C.-based Scotland Health Care System is planning to go live on a new Epic EHR in early February, according to The Laurinburg Exchange.

SHCS will implement Epic across its main hospital — Scotland Memorial Hospital — as well as numerous primary care and specialty physician offices. Health system officials said Epic will help SHCS clinicians exchange patient data for improved patient care, as well as improved care coordination with clinicians outside of SHCS. This will help SHCS reduce duplicative tests and orders.

"Our goal is one patient, one record," Cheryl Davis, MD, the health system's CMO and senior vice president of medical affairs, told The Laurinburg Exchange. "With the implementation of Epic systemwide, we will have a single EHR across all care settings, increasing our opportunities to continuously improve patient care and safety while pursuing cost effectiveness."
