Michigan health information network merges with state HIE

Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services will integrate Great Lakes Health Connect, a Michigan-based health information exchange by the end of the year, according to a Nov. 7 news release.

MiHIN builds the technology and resources needed to support safe and secure sharing of electronic health information across Michigan. GLHC, is a leading nonprofit HIE in Michigan that offers several HIE products and services statewide.

"This strategic integration stays true to both organizations' missions to continuously improve healthcare quality, efficiency and patient safety by promoting secure, electronic exchange of health information with the best available technology," said Tim Pletcher, executive director of MiHIN.

No staff positions from either MiHIN or GLHC will be eliminated as a result of the merger. MiHIN expects to need an additional 36 associates over the next year.
