Meditech rolled out a cloud-based tool that lets organizations using its web-based EHR platform continue using the system during network downtime resulting from cyberattacks and other unplanned events.
Meditech's High Availability SnapShot uses the Google Cloud platform to give clients using its Expanse EHR uninterrupted access to patient data during unplanned downtime. The cloud network lets providers retrieve patient data via a web browser on any cellular device, including smartphones and tablets, to continue providing uninterrupted care.
Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health recently went live with the new tool, which will help strengthen the system's emergency strategy, Andrew Burchett, MD, chief medical information officer at Avera Health, said in a news release.
"Having an emergency strategy to Avera has always been essential, especially being located in rural areas when our systems may experience issues because of unpredictable weather interrupting technology,” he said. "This addition to our downtime strategy strengthens our ability to support our community and care teams in any situation and allows us to use technology to help provide patients with superior care.”
Avera Health comprises three hospitals, 215 primary and specialty care clinics and 40 senior living facilities.
