Marshall Medical Center goes live on Epic EMR

Marshall Medical Center in Placerville, Calif., implemented the Epic EMR system Nov. 1. The implementation replaces the separate systems the medical center previously used to house inpatient and outpatient records.

Partnering with UC Davis, the medical center invested $15 million in the two-year implementation. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health and UC Davis Health all use the Epic platform, which will allow Marshall Medical Center to more easily share patient data with them.

The unified EMR system aims to prevent duplication of records and other issues that can affect patient safety. Epic's MyChart patient portal gives patients 24/7 access to their medical records as well as the ability to pay bills, request appointments and view test results online.

Marshall Medical Center is planning phase two of the Epic implementation, which will take place in 2018 and will offer additional capabilities.
