A Republican House leader not only hopes to end the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs EHR contract with Oracle Cerner but wants the vendor to pay the government back, FedScoop reported.
Problems with the EHR implementation have delayed it by at least a year or two and reportedly added billions of dollars to the cost.
"If it was up to me, not only would Oracle Cerner be gone, but we would be clawing back some of the money that we've already spent on them," U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale, chair of the House VA Subcommittee on Technology Modernization, told the news outlet in the March 10 story.
"We have a bill out there to terminate the Cerner contract but I think we should take it a step further. I do listen to the recommendations of my staff and so I haven't done that but I think that they [Cerner] have done an absolute disservice."
The Montana congressman wants the agency to stay with its legacy VistA EHR. Oracle told FedScoop in February it will take a little less than a year to fix the issues with the Cerner EHR.
