Indiana Health Information Exchange and Michiana Health Information Network will integrate their services and operations to provide health information exchange support across Indiana, according to a Nov. 14 news release.
The HIEs will consolidate on Jan. 1, 2020, with all MHIN employees becoming IHIE employees to unite the two organizations. Founded in 2004, IHIE provides services to an estimated 50,000 healthcare providers in Indiana and neighboring states.
Earlier this year, Indiana's third HIE HealthLINC also consolidated with IHIE and transitioned its customers to the provider. With MHIN joining the organization as well, IHIE will serve as the single HIE in Indiana.
"The evolution of national interoperability is driving the need for HIEs to adapt, but also creating opportunities for new HIE value propositions," said John Kansky, president and CEO of IHIE, according to the news release. "To deliver this new value, HIEs need to make significant investments and operate on a larger scale."
