The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare on July 1 enacted new patient rights rules for hospitals, including an update to its regulations for patients' access to their medical records, according to Lexology.
Under the new rules, hospitals would be required to allow patients access to their clinical records within three business days of their initial request. Previously, under HIPAA, hospitals would have up to 30 days to respond to records requests.
The new rules also provide updates to rules regarding notice of patient rights, documenting informed consent and privacy.
