Hospitals and health systems opting for Epic EHRs in 2022

Below are 28 hospitals and health systems that launched a new Epic EHR system or announced plans to do so in 2022. 

  • Boston-based Fenway Health went live Dec. 1 with a new Epic EHR.

  • Sonoma (Calif.) Valley Hospital went  live with a new Epic EHR Dec. 3. The 51-bed hospital, which is affiliated with San Francisco-based UCSF Health, had previously used Allscripts as its EHR vendor.

  • Lewisburg, Pa.-based Evangelical Community Hospital changed its EHR to Epic and went live with the new system Dec. 4. The hospital had previously used disparate systems with Allscripts being the main vendor.

  • Mackinac Straits Health System and MidMichigan Health signed an agreement to share an Epic EHR system. Under the agreement, Midland-based MidMichigan will share its Epic EHR system with St. Ignace, Mich.-based Mackinac Straits.

  • Baton Rouge, La.-based Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Zachary, La.-based Lane Regional Medical Center have entered into a formal agreement to share an Epic EHR system. The implementation of the new system will begin in early 2024.

  • Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health partnered with IT consultancy Brightwork Health to implement Epic's EHR system. The new implementation, which involved 65 Brightwork staff members and 95 Summa Health Epic project team members, will allow the health system to have a unified health record system.

  • Fergus Falls, Minn.-based Lake Region Healthcare is spending $25 million to unify its three EHR systems with Epic. The transition, which was set to be completed on Nov. 1, was made possible through a partnership with Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health as the Epic Community Connect host.

  • Aitkin, Minn.-based Riverwood Healthcare Center's board has approved funds for the health system to transition to an Epic EHR system. The new system will replace the hospital's current system that is hosted by Minneapolis-based Allina Health.

  • Gillette, Wyo.-based Campbell County Health is switching EHRs from Meditech to Epic in a move that will cost $8 million.

  • Aspen (Colo.) Valley Hospital went live with its $16 million Epic EHR installation on Oct. 1. The hospital's board of directors approved the switch from Meditech to Epic on June 13, 2021.

  • Harnett Health, a two-hospital system in Dunn, N.C., and Lillington, N.C., completed its transition to Epic EHR on Oct. 1. The switch to Epic further integrates Harnett Health into Fayetteville, N.C.-based Cape Fear Valley Health System, which Harnett joined in March 2021.

  • Iola, Kan.-based Allen County Regional Hospital installed an Epic EHR system Oct. 1. The new system allows the hospital to align themselves more closely with other hospitals in Kansas City, Mo.-based Saint Luke's Health System.

  • Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System is switching its EHR vendor from Oracle Cerner to Epic.

  • Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare has transferred its EHR from Oracle Cerner to Epic as it aims to more seamlessly share patient records and improve its billing and scheduling functions.

  • Oakland, Md.-based Garrett Regional Medical Center is receiving a $650,000 grant to install an Epic EHR system. The new Epic EHR will allow patient records from Garrett Regional Medical Center to be shared more quickly with specialists at WVU Medicine and other larger medical facilities.

  • Cody (Wyo.) Regional Health announced plans to go live with Epic's EHR system on Oct. 1. The Epic EHR system will replace the health system's current medical record and patient billing software, Meditech.

  • On Sept. 17, McLeansboro, Ill.-based Hamilton Memorial Hospital District went live with Epic's EHR system.

  • MercyOne health system will transition to Epic EHR to align with Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health. Trinity plans to transition MercyOne to its common platforms, including a single EHR. MercyOne is switching from  Cerner to Epic, which Trinity rolled out to its hospitals over the last few years, following Trinity's acquisition of MercyOne.

  • Greenbrae, Calif.-based MarinHealth Medical Center implemented a new EHR system in collaboration with the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. The new system, dubbed APeX, allows patients to have digital access to all their health information through Epic Systems' patient portal.

  • Winchester, Va.-based Valley Health will spend $50 million to install its own Epic EHR system. The health system has used Epic's EHR through a partnership with Falls Church, Va.-based Inova Health System since 2014 and plans to install its own upgraded version of the system.

  • Jackson, Miss.-based St. Dominic Hospital will implement its Epic EHR system at McComb, Miss.-based Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical. The two health systems will share the same EHR system with the aim of improving care coordination, patient registration, scheduling and clinical integration, as well as streamlining the financial and billing processes.

  • Atlanta-based Piedmont launched Epic's EHR system at Bartow, Ga.-based Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center; Snellville, Ga.-based Piedmont Eastside Medical Center; Snellville, Ga.-based Piedmont Eastside South Campus; Piedmont Macon (Ga.) Medical Center; and Piedmont Macon (Ga.) North Hospital. The hospitals joined the Piedmont system on Aug. 1.

  • Farmington, Conn.-based UConn Health's neonatal intensive care unit will go live with Epic's EHR system June 28. Epic's system will replace the unit's paper record keeping system.

  • Naples, Fla.-based NCH Healthcare System will spend $65 million to transition its Cerner EHR system to an Epic system.

  • Audubon County (Iowa) Memorial Hospital and its associated clinics transitioned its current EHR system to Epic's EHR system on May 2.

  • South Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network connected three hospitals to Epic's EHR system: Malone, N.Y.-based Alice Hyde Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.-based Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and Elizabethtown (N.Y.) Community Hospital.

  • Coeur d'Alene, Idaho-based Kootenai Health went live with an Epic EHR system, replacing its 11 different EHR systems with a single system.

  • Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine connected the Marion County Health Department to its Epic EHR system with the goal of improving care coordination.

  • Helen Newberry (Mich.) Joy Hospital and Healthcare Center and Midland-based MyMichigan Health joined forces to implement a new Epic EMR system for patients at Helen Newberry.

  • Pullman (Wash.) Regional Hospital partnered with Renton, Wash.-based Providence to implement an Epic EHR system for the hospital and its network of clinics.
