A Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society subsidiary recognized two hospitals in Maryland — Frederick Memorial Hospital and Elkton-based Union Hospital of Cecil County — for their EMR initiatives.
Frederick Memorial Hospital and Union Hospital of Cecil County earned Stage 7 on the eight-stage HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, which measures the degree to which a hospital uses its EMR functions. Five percent of U.S. hospitals have reached Stage 7, which represents the highest designation.
"HIMSS Stage 7 is not something you can reach overnight," said Michelle Mahan, CFO of Frederick Memorial Hospital. "It took hard work and due diligence of everyone at the organization."
Rich Szumel, MD, president and CEO of Union Hospital of Cecil County, added, "We are extremely proud of our staff for taking the initiative to become one of the few hospitals in our state to reach Stage 7."
Frederick Memorial Hospital and Union Hospital of Cecil County represent the first Meditech customers in Maryland to reach Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model.
