First hospital in Lebanon goes live on Epic: 4 things to know

The American University of Beirut Medical Center went live on an Epic EHR Nov. 3, making it the first organization in Lebanon to use Epic.

Here are four things to know about the Epic EHR implementation:

1. AUBMC launched AUBHealth, a system developed by Epic, to replace its home-grown EHR. Hundreds of caregivers across the hospital will use the EHR.

2. The EHR integrates clinical documentation with ancillary systems, such as radiology, pharmacy and laboratory services. Patients will have access to their information through Epic's patient portal, MyChart.

3. AUBHealth was developed over the course of three years. During this period, several members of the medical center's staff traveled to Epic's headquarters in Verona, Wis., to receive training on the new EHR.

4. Raed Rafeh, project director of AUBHealth, said: "AUBHealth is a transformational initiative that aims at improving and standardizing the delivery of healthcare services in Lebanon."
