Epic in the last 30 days

From plans to join an interoperability task force to furthering its precision medicine aspirations, here are six updates on Epic's operations, software products and partnerships reported by Becker's Hospital Review in June.

  1. Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine said it will enhance its EHR system with 19 new Epic System modules as part of a three-phase, six-year program aimed at improving the quality, safety and efficiency of care for patients. The program, which started in July 2021, is set to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2023.

  2. New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System said it is transitioning its Epic EHR system to Microsoft Azure and using the cloud service for much of its operation.

  3. Atlanta-based Piedmont launched its Epic EHR system at five of its newest hospitals. Piedmont said the Epic system will help exchange patient data, give patients secure access to their health data, and let patients communicate with providers, schedule appointments, perform e-check prior to arrival and refill prescriptions.

  4. Epic plans to join the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, a new health information exchange network that aims to improve health data interoperability across the U.S., as a qualified health information network. The move would give Epic's community of 2,000 hospitals and 45,000 clinics a chance to join the nationwide framework.

  5. Epic added a digital front door mobile app, Healthcare Triangle, to its MyChart system. The app features include appointment scheduling, billing and payment management, secure messaging, virtual visits, health trackers and medication refilling.

  6. Epic partnered with genetic testing and precision medicine company, Myriad Genetics, to integrate its line of genetic testing into Epic's EHR system. The integration, which is expected to go live later this year, will allow providers to order Myriad's tests and review results directly within their Epic platform.
