Two health information exchanges in Colorado, Quality Health Network and Colorado Regional Health Information Organization, are teaming up to expand the exchange of patient medical records across the state, according to a Dec. 17 news release.
Grand Junction-based QHN and Denver-based CORHIO can now exchange clinical documents. By partnering, Colorado health providers can search either QHN's or CORHIO's systems when looking for a patient's hospital records, test results or other health information, regardless of the EHR system their organization uses to manage medical records.
Collectively, QHN and CORHIO connect 89 Colorado hospitals and more than 7,600 providers.
Over the past two years, QHN and CORHIO have used an alert system to notify providers when a health event occurred for one of their patients. From January to October of this year, the HIEs shared 241,932 patient event notifications.
