Cerner is teaming up with Los Angeles-based medical software company Transplant Connect to add a tool to its EHR that automates organ donation and transplant referrals, the companies said Nov. 4.
Four details:
1. The tool, dubbed iReferral, is embedded in Cerner's Millennium EHR platform, giving hospitals and health systems direct access to referrals within their EHR platform.
2. The technology aims to help speed up potential organ, tissue and eye donor referrals and increase the number of recipient matches across the system.
3. The tool can identify potential donors and start the referral process in nearly real time by delivering information from Cerner Millennium into Transplant Conect's platform, which is used by organ donor procurement organizations to manage donor and transplant cases.
4. Transplant Connect's donor and transplant management systems are used by 74 percent of all organ procurement organizations in the U.S., as well as approximately 4,500 hospitals, according to the news release.
