Alameda Health System in Oakland, Calif., deployed an Epic EHR at the beginning of October.
Five notes:
1. AHS began the EHR implementation project in 2016 as part of the health system's effort to increase coordination of patient care.
2. AHS staff underwent EHR training in September to learn how to use Epic prior to its go live.
3. Staff training consisted of learning administrative tasks and facilitating the secure exchange of patient information across all AHS facilities and other health providers that use Epic.
4. AHS patients now have access to Epic's MyChart patient portal, which allows individuals to self-schedule appointments, view their health information, pay bills and message their care team, among other functions.
5. AHS comprises five hospitals and a network of community-based wellness centers. The health system employees more than 1,100 physicians.
