The California Emergency Medical Services Authority granted Manifest MedEx, the state's nonprofit health data network, $4.9 million to create a health information exchange between emergency ambulance service providers and hospitals.
With the HIE, the organizations aim to streamline data usage in emergency care. The network will support real-time alerts that notify hospitals of incoming patients as well as the interoperable transfer of patient and hospital EHRs.
During the two-year program, Manifest MedEx will collaborate with six local California EMS agencies, 13 EMS providers and 16 hospitals. More than 400 healthcare organizations in California participate in Manifest MedEx.
