Blessing Health System launches Apple Health Records

Quincy, Ill.-based Blessing Health System patients can now access their health information on their iPhones through Apple's Health Records feature, NBC affiliate WGEM reports.

Blessing Health System, which partnered with Allscripts more than 15 years ago, is able to access Apple Health Records through the technology giant's recent collaboration with the EHR vendor.

Prior to offering Apple Health Records, Blessing Health System patients' medical records were stored in multiple locations. Apple developed its Health Records application by building it on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources. The app allows patients to view their health data, including medical conditions, lab results and allergies, in a single location.

"When patients have their medical records easily available in one view right on their phone, the entire patient care experience improves — patients have a better understanding of their overall health and clinicians have access to important information regarding their patient's medical history, right when they need it," Blessing Health System CIO Ann Eickelschulte told WGEM.

Blessing Health System comprises two hospitals, a physician group and a nursing and health sciences college.
