While 90 percent of hospitals have the certified EHR technology patients need to view, download and transmit their health information electronically, only 3 out of every 4 hospitals have enabled the tech function, according to a June ONC data brief.
In the data brief, ONC provided the national estimates and proportions of U.S. hospitals that have enabled patient electronic access to their health information.
In 2019, nearly all hospitals enabled patients to electronically view their health data using an online portal. About nine in 10 hospitals allowed patients to download their health information, but only 75 percent of hospitals had the EHR functionality enabled that lets patients send their health data electronically to a third party, according to the report.
