Google is updating and launching new healthcare AI models ranging from those that can examine medical images to a personal health coaching large language model.
Google has launched MedLM for Chest X-ray, a generative AI-powered tool that can help classify chest X-rays, according to a March 19 news release from Google. Additionally, the tech company is fine-tuning its AI model Gemini so that it can answer questions about chest X-ray images and genomic information.
"We're also seeing promising results from our fine-tuned models on complex tasks such as report generation for 2D images like X-rays, as well as 3D images like brain CT scans — representing a step-change in our medical AI capabilities," the news release reads. "While this work is still in the research phase, there's potential for generative AI in radiology to bring assistive capabilities to health organizations."
Another AI tool the company is planning to roll out is a large language model that can serve as a personalized health coach. The large language model, according to Google, will be able to analyze data from a person's Fitbit and Pixel devices to provide them with guidance on personal and fitness goals.
"For example, this model may be able to analyze variations in your sleep patterns and sleep quality, and then suggest recommendations on how you might change the intensity of your workout based on those insights," the news release reads.
Google is also trying to test its research AI system, Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorers, also known as AMIE, with a healthcare organization. The tool can help with diagnostic reasoning and conversations.
The tech giant wants to see how this large language model can assist with clinical conversations between clinicians and patients.
