TechCrunch reported Jan. 11 that Google has merged its Fitbit, Pixel, and Nest engineering teams into one, core hardware team.
Fitbit co-founders Eric Friedman and James Park have also left Google as a result of the layoffs and company restructuring.
After acquiring Fitbit in 2021, Google has worked to integrate its systems with Fitbit technologies, even pushing Fitbit users to move toward Google accounts. This effort continues with the consolidation of Fitbit engineering teams and the departure of its co-founders.
