More than 200 Amazon Echo devices have been donated to Calcutta Health Care Center in Ohio for patients and nurses to use for better communication across the facility, according to a July 16 WKBN report.
"It was an original concept that Amazon had that wanted to partner with nursing homes," Greg Roof, CHCC’s regional administrator, told the network. "We were one of the first ones that said we’re willing to do it, we want to give it a try. We are the only ones in the state of Ohio with this."
The initiative is modeled after hospital partnerships, which Amazon began expanding during the pandemic as a way to help reduce the number of hospital staff entering patients' rooms.
The Echos have been implemented in CHCC's four other facilities in Ohio, and the organization said it hopes to connect the devices to its EHR software, according to the report.
