NewYork-Presbyterian establishes health innovation institute for telemedicine programs

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City recently launched the Hauser Institute for Health Innovation in recognition of the more than $50 million philanthropists Rita Hauser and Gustave Hauser have donated to the hospital's telemedicine programs.

Mr. and Mrs. Hauser have financially supported numerous NewYork-Presbyterian health technology and telemedicine initiatives since 2011, including the hospital's telemedicine suite NYP OnDemand. The telemedicine service is part of collaboration with Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Irving Medical Center, both in New York City, which allows patients to partake in virtual appointments with their providers via smartphone, tablet or computer.

Since rolling out in July 2016, NYP On Demand has increased its services to include more than 46 digital health programs available to patients as well as more than 230,000 virtual visits.

The Hauser Institute for Health Innovation will also encompass NewYork-Presbyterian's programs for remote patient monitoring, teleparamedics and clinical operations center.

Rita Hauser serves as president of the Hauser Foundation and is an international lawyer. She has more than 20 years of law experience and was a member of President Obama's Intelligence Advisory Board from 2009 to 2012. Gustave Hauser was the founding CEO and chairman of Warner Cable Communications.
