Mount Sinai Innovation Partners serves as the commercialization engine for Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. With more than 39 employees in specialties including business development, intellectual property and alliance management, MSIP focuses on translating research and technological discoveries into viable products that help support patient population.
MSIP is involved in more than 230 active partnerships including joint ventures, startups and spinouts. Some recent collaborations include HiberCell, a biotechnology spinout that focuses on therapeutics for metastatic cancer, as well as Rx. Health, a digital medicine platform that enables evidence-based therapeutics and care plans to be prescribed via EHRs and care management systems.
A central MSIP undertaking has been allocating funding opportunities and financial resources for Mount Sinai researchers through the i3 Accelerator, which is a $10.75 million, four-year investment to increase the pace of commercialization for Mount Sinai discoveries and research. The main goal of i3 is to advance potential discoveries and the commercialization of technologies that will benefit patient population.
In 2018, MSIP valued its new industry research agreements at $25.9 million and filed 209 patents.
