To focus on new ideas and creativity in medicine, Hackensack Meridian Health created its Center for Discovery and Innovation. Currently, the center is focused on regenerative medicine; the science of replacing and healing damaged human cells, tissues and organs; the application of gene engineering and technology; and the use of the body’s own immune system as a way to treat disease and improve outcomes.
Since launching its innovation department, Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health has received $33.3 million in funding. Hackensack Meridian Health is also contributing $25 million in capital to create an incubator space that promotes innovation. This incubator has drawn support from venture capitalists and life science companies.
Along with clinical innovations, Hackensack Meridian Health is dedicated to improving workflows. The health system is addressing the physician shortage through a partnership with Seton Hall University. Through the partnership, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University is investing in meaningful integration across specialties and professions with innovative, high-quality research.
