Michigan hospital set to be named after philanthropist couple

The new $920 million hospital on the Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan medical campus will be called the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion after the couple's foundation donated $50 million to the health system, The Detroit News reported Dec. 8.

The philanthropist couple ran the Kahn Foundation and had a 20-year history of making donations to the university. The $50 million donation is one of the largest the health system has ever received.

"Patients and families who come to Michigan Medicine see their lives changed," UM President Santa Ono, PhD, said. "We are deeply grateful to the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Foundation for its extraordinary generosity, which will enable us to further develop and advance the highly specialized care, innovative research and comprehensive medical training that make our health system so exceptional."

The hospital is slated to open in 2025.
