Instagram and Facebook suspended nonprofit Children's Health Defense for repeated violations of policies on COVID-19 misinformation, The New York Times reported Aug. 18.
The anti-vaccine group, led by Robert Kennedy Jr., was suspended from the social media platforms for spreading misleading claims about vaccines and other public health measures designed to control the pandemic.
Over the course of the pandemic, the nonprofit has questioned the safety of COVID-19 vaccines, saying that the vaccinations cause organ damage and harm to pregnant women.
The organization has also claimed that vaccines for tetanus caused infertility and that polio vaccines were responsible for a global rise in polio cases.
Nick Clegg, Meta president of global affairs, said Facebook has removed more than 25 million pieces of content related to COVID-19 misinformation since the start of the pandemic.
